The rivet series is a design from way back in 2005. I do not care for traditional stone setting techniques. I have created my own way of setting stones using pin head rivets to sandwich the stone between two forged and formed metal pieces.
The finished prototype
was made using a rainbow fluorite worry stone, specifically with my overly anxious wife in mind. Worry stones are smooth, polished gemstones, which are usually oval in shape with a thumb-sized intention. They are used by holding the stone between the index finger and thumb and gently moving one’s thumb back and forth across the stone. The stones are utilized for relaxation or to relieve anxiety. The back of the prototype pendant was left open so that my wife could access the indentation on the back of the stone to calm herself. The three quarter torque, which is based on traditional Viking torque’s, was formed to be unique and comfortable.
The reaction from other people to this piece, which happens to still be her favorite, was so profound that she convinced me to start producing them for retail. I began to experiment with different forging techniques on the torques and eventually opted to offer chains as well to provide alternatives for my clients.
I enjoy working with a number of stones, minerals and metals. My favorites are jasper, agate, tiger’s eye, bronzite, and petrified wood. Copper, silver, bronze and mokume are my preferred metals.
